Surface induces different crystal structures in a room temperature switchable spin crossover compound.

چکیده
We investigated the influence of surfaces in the formation of different crystal structures of a spin crossover compound, namely [Fe(L)2] (LH: (2-(pyrazol-1-yl)-6-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine), which is a neutral compound thermally switchable around room temperature. We observed that the surface induces the formation of two different crystal structures, which exhibit opposite spin transitions, i.e. on heating them up to the transition temperature, one polymorph switches from high spin to low spin and the second polymorph switches irreversibly from low spin to high spin. We attributed this inversion to the presence of water molecules H-bonded to the complex tetrazolyl moieties in the crystals. Thin deposits were investigated by means of polarized optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and micro Raman spectroscopy; moreover the analysis of the Raman spectra and the interpretation of spin inversion were supported by DFT calculations.

Switchable slow relaxation of magnetization in the native low temperature phase of a cooperative spin-crossover compound.
The implementation of single-molecule magnet properties in spin crossover materials is sought as a unique source of magnetic multistability at the molecular level. Examples however remain extremely scarce, in part due to the diamagnetic state of most Fe(ii) spin crossover materials at low temperatures. We have studied the complex [Fe(mtz)6](CF3SO3)2 (mtz = 1-methyltetrazole) as a tantalizing ca...
متن کاملSpin-Singlet Transition in the Magnetic Hybrid Compound from a Spin-Crossover Fe(III) Cation and -Radical Anion
To develop a new spin-crossover functional material, a magnetic hybrid compound [Fe(qsal)2][Ni(mnt)2] was designed and synthesized (Hqsal = N-(8-quinolyl)salicylaldimine, mnt = maleonitriledithiolate). The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility suggested the coexistence of the high-spin (HS) Fe(III) cation and π-radical anion at room temperature and a magnetic transition below 100 K....
متن کاملEffects of Internal and External Pressure on the [Fe(PM-PEA)2(NCS)2] Spin-Crossover Compound (with PM-PEA = N-(2'-pyridylmethylene)-4- (phenylethynyl)aniline)
The spin-crossover properties of the strongly cooperative compound [Fe(PM-PEA)2(NCS)2] (with PM-PEA = N-(21-pyridylmethylene)-4-(phenylethynyl)aniline) have been investigated under external in situ pressure, external ex situ pressure and internal pressure. In situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction investigations under pressure indicate a Spin-Crossover (SCO) at about 400 MPa and room temperature...

Two new mononuclear iron(II) compounds (1) and (2) of the general formula [Fe(L)₂](BF₄)₂·nCH₃CN (L = 4-(2-bromoethyn-1-yl)-2,6-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine, n = 1 for (1) and n = 2 for compound (2)), were synthesized. The room temperature crystallization afforded concomitant formation of two different solvent analogues: compound (1) exhibiting triclinic P-1 and compound (2) monoclinic C2/c symmetr...
